Eyelet Curtains

Most curtains in the past were hard to adjust and handle.  Often they would bunch up or get stuck whenever you tried to open them.  Fortunately a solution was found. Holes were placed in the fabric using attached grommets so a curtain rod could slide freely through the fabric.  These are known as eyelet curtains.  This curtain style has two panels with eyelets across the top, allowing for free movement of the curtains when you are opening and closing them.

Because they are so easy to use, the eyelet curtain is very popular today.  They are used for a wide variety of purposes, all the way from cheap eyelet curtains used for a shower curtain to more formal styles used as living room and dining room drapes.  The eyelets allow the curtains to hang from the curtain rod neatly and prevents the fabric from bunching up.  This style of curtains also gives a room a very clean, light and airy feeling.

Usually this type of curtain is made from lightweight fabrics.  This helps to avoid placing stress on the fabric, which can result in tears occurring near the eyelets.  They allow allow lots of sunlight into a room.  Heavier fabrics for more formal settings can be selected as well, such as lined eyelet curtains.

One potential disadvantage is eyelets are quite visible.  They may potentially detract from your home decor.  There is, however, a solution to that as well these days.  Eyelet headers are available, which are valences designed specifically for hiding the eyelets from view.  There are many different colors and styles of eyelet headers available.

Eyelet curtains can be found in most any room of the house, but the most common places are child bedrooms, nurseries, bathrooms and kitchens.  White eyelet curtains can make for a very light and airy touch or soft and feminine colors can be used for a little girl’s room or nursery.

Of course eyelet curtains can also be used in more formal areas of the home such as the living room or dining room.  One thing to consider is more formal and heavier fabrics may require more care and maintenance.  However they can still be used to great effect in a dining or living area.  These curtains are so versatile and easy to use that they can make a great addition to your home.
